How often do I need to have my furnace serviced?

Furnace maintenance is essential for the safety of your HVAC system and home. Your furnace needs to be serviced once a year, generally in the fall prior to the onset of colder weather.

How long should my furnace last?

A furnace is generally good for 15 to 20 years of service if it is maintained on a regular basis and the filter is changed every one to three months.

How often should you change your furnace filter?

Ideally, you should change your furnace filter every month in the winter, and every three months in the summer if you are running A/C.

How often do I need to have my AC unit serviced?

Your A/C needs to be serviced once a year. We recommend AC maintenance in the spring after the temperature has been at least 50 degrees for several days, but before you actually need it for the heat of the summer.

How long should my AC unit last?

An A/C unit is good for 15 to 20 years of service if it is maintained properly. This generally means the filter is changed monthly during cooling season and the condenser is cleaned in the spring prior to the heat of the summer.

How do I know if I need an air purifier?

After COVID-19, many families now use an air purifier to destroy bacteria, viruses, and pollen. Also, if you notice dust or any other pollutants on the surfaces in your home, it might be solved with an air purifier and duct cleaning.

How do I maintain my swamp cooler?

Your swamp cooler needs to be serviced in the spring and have the pads changed at the same time. In the fall before the first freeze, you need to make sure you have your swamp cooler winterized and drained.

How often should I have my air ducts cleaned?

Duct cleaning should be done at least every five years if you don’t have pets.  If you have pets and change your filter in the furnace at least every three months, then you should have your air ducts cleaned every three years.

How often should I have my humidifier serviced?

Humidifiers need to be serviced and the water pad changed once a year. However, if there is a build-up of calcium deposits in the drain, it should be serviced twice a year. This is usually done at the same time as the furnace service in the fall. Never run the humidifier with the A/C in operation —  this will cause the evaporator coil to freeze up and damage the system.

What is a heat pump?

A heat pump is a versatile HVAC system that can both heat and cool your space. Unlike traditional heating and cooling systems that generate heat or cool air, a heat pump transfers heat from one place to another. In heating mode, it extracts heat from the outside air, even in colder temperatures, and transfers it inside to warm your home or office. In cooling mode, it reverses the process by extracting heat from indoors and releasing it outside, effectively cooling your space. This efficient technology not only provides year-round comfort but also offers energy savings by utilizing the natural heat exchange process. Heat pumps are an excellent choice for areas with climates like Colorado, where they can efficiently heat during winters and cool during summers, all in one system.

How much does an HVAC system cost?

The national average for a new HVAC system is about $7,500; however, this can depend on home size, equipment, and other factors. Here at Springs Heating & Cooling, we never want you to compromise the comfort of your home due to budget constraints! We also understand that unexpected HVAC expenses can be difficult.
